This address will enlighten Capital 2.0 attendees on the health and
well-being of venture capitals in the telco industry and will share
findings from the 2007 Global VC Survey, as conducted by Deloitte
Touche LLP in association with the National Venture Capital
Association. Jensen will look at top global markets for VC
investment, overall investing trends, global investment concerns and
issues, and how telco companies will be impacted by these trends.

Mark Jensen, Partner & National Director, Venture Capital Services, Deloitte & Touche LLP
Jensen brings a diverse background to his role as a partner and national director for venture capital services at Deloitte & Touche. Prior to joining Deloitte & Touche, Jensen was the CFO for Redleaf Group Inc., a venture capital firm providing services and capital for pre-seed and seed-stage technology companies. He joined Redleaf after serving as the Silicon Valley office managing partner and global high-technology industry leader for another “Big 5” professional services firm, where he was responsible for building that firm's technology industry program worldwide. Jensen has worked on numerous IPOs and other security offerings and also has served an as audit partner for numerous companies in the venture capital, life sciences and information technology industries.

Speaker Matt Niehaus, Partner, Battery Ventures
Niehaus joined Battery Ventures in 2007 and focuses on investments in communication services and infrastructure technologies. His previous work experience combines private equity and entrepreneurial roles. Prior to Battery, Niehaus was director of strategic development at VeriSign Inc. He joined VeriSign in 2005 when it acquired R4 Global Solutions Inc., a leading RFID technology firm that Niehaus co-founded. Previously, he was an investor at Telegraph Hill Communications Partners, a firm he also co-founded, as well as at J.P. Morgan Capital. At both firms, he concentrated on the communications and technology sectors, investing a total of $233 million in nine companies. These investments produced $583 million in gross proceeds and an internal rate of return of 71 percent. His investments included Columbia River Cellular, Triton Cellular, Triton PCS, Lightship Communications, New South Communications, NeoWorld and CallVision.

Panelist David Malfara, CEO, Remi Communications Holdings LLC
Malfara serves as president, CEO and director of Remi Communications Holdings LLC and its subsidiaries. He also serves as CTO, directing Remi’s efforts to offer services over its metro
Ethernet and VPLS-based network infrastructure, to enterprise customers in the Northeast. Malfara also is a founding director of Boathouse Communications Partners LLC, a Philadelphia-based investment and management firm, and leads the firm’s telecommunications interests. Over the past 30 years, Malfara has founded or co-founded several successful companies, both public and private, including two nationwide telecommunications carriers: Z-Tel Network Services and Pace Communications.
Panelist Rod Randall, Senior Managing Director, Vesbridge Partners LLC
Randall has spent more than 24 years in the networking industry as an entrepreneur, senior executive and venture capitalist. Prior to forming Vesbridge, he was a general partner with SPVC, where he led the mobile investment practice. Some of his investments included Dynamicsoft (acquired by Cisco Systems Inc.), Bitfone (acquired by Hewlett-Packard), FusionOne and Visage Mobile. Before becoming a venture capitalist, Randall had been chief marketing officer at Lucent’s Service Provider Group, which he joined in 1999 when it acquired Ascend, where he worked as vice president of worldwide marketing. Previously, he held positions at Stratus Computer and Madge Networks, which acquired Teleos Communications, a company he co-founded in 1987. Randall began his career in technology at AT&T Bell Labs in 1981.
Panelist Tom Wheeler, Managing Director, Core Capital Partners
As a managing director at Core Capital Partners, a private equity firm managing $380 million in assets, Wheeler invests in and works with early-stage technology companies. He is president of the Shiloh Group LLC, providing policy strategy and business development counseling. Wheeler also co-founded and is chairman of SmartBrief, an electronic information service for vertical markets. With more than 30 years experience in telecommunications policy and business development, Wheeler has helped start multiple companies offering cable, wireless and video communications services, both domestically and internationally. As a policy expert, he has helped to develop the government’s telecommunications policy at the legislative and regulatory level. From 1979 to 1984, Wheeler served as president of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA). Following NCTA, he was CEO of several high-tech companies, including the first company to offer high-speed delivery of data to home computers and the first digital video satellite service.

Raffetto, CEO, Vanco US Operations
Named CEO of the Vanco US in August 2003, Raffetto is responsible for all
business and operations for Vanco in the Americas market region. He is also a
member of Vanco's board of directors, and has served as the company’s
chairman. Prior to Vanco, Raffetto held various senior management positions
including vice president of major accounts for Calix, president and CEO of Bell
Atlantic's Data Solutions Group, and also was appointed group president of
business services following the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE that formed
Verizon. In these roles, Raffetto was responsible for leading the end-to-end
data and voice services for the regional, national and global business markets
with a focus on network integration, professional services, IP solutions, call
center services and global transport. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in government
and law from Lafayette College and a Master of Business Administration in
marketing from Monmouth University.
Panelist Klaus Scholz, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer, DIBZ International
As the co-founder and chief marketing officer of DIBZ International, Scholz is responsible for launching a one-stop communication platform for social networks and developing strategic alliances with MySpace, Google, Yahoo! and cellular carriers like AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. Previously, Scholz served as COO of wholesale carrier GlobalNet. In 2005, he won for a consecutive year the Best Product award for GlobalNet’s private label VoIP platform and billing system, at a major U.S. Internet trade show. Before GlobalNet, Scholz served as vice president of iDial Networks, where he managed sales, marketing and operations. He joined iDial in 1999 and listed the company in 2000 through a reverse merger at NASDAQ OTC. In 1998, as vice president of corporate business development for the Asian conglomerate Loxley, he launched with the Minister of Telecom the first public Internet telephone.

Speaker Mark Bernier, Managing Director, Communications GE Commercial Finance Bernier has more than 13 years of corporate finance experience
in the media and communications industries. Currently, he is the
managing director and team leader for communications sector
originations within GE’s Media, Communications & Entertainment
financing business. His team expertly sources and structures debt
and equity opportunities specifically for the cable, wireline,
wireless and tower sectors. Bernier also has held senior-level
domestic and international risk-management positions within the GE
unit. Prior to GE, he spent four years at Fleet Bank in its Media
and Communications Finance Group. A graduate of Bryant University,
Bernier majored in finance.

Robinson joined Broadview Networks as the CEO in March 2005. Prior to this, he had been with US LEC as executive vice president and CFO since July 1998, responsible for financial operations, investor relations, billing and information systems development, information technology, human resources and real estate. Prior to joining US LEC, Robinson spent 10 years in various management positions with the telecommunications division of Alcatel, including executive vice president and CFO of Alcatel Data Networks and the worldwide financial operations of the enterprise and data networking division of Alcatel. Previously, Robinson was CFO of Alcatel Network Systems, and held various management positions with Windward International and Siecor Corp. (now Corning Cable Systems Inc.).
Panelist Gerry DeHaven, Managing Director, Blue Beacon Capital
DeHaven is the managing director of Blue Beacon Capital, a boutique investment banking firm focusing on VoIP, wireless, network management, and other emerging IP technologies and services. Most recently, DeHaven worked with Speakeasy on its $97 million sale to Best Buy. Blue Beacon Capital has managed recent transactions with firms such as CommPartners, Covad, General Telecom, Net2Phone, NextWeb and New Global Telecom. Previously, DeHaven spent more than 15 years in executive roles with service providers, including Broadvox, Covista and Viatel. He also has founded several telecom/Internet ventures and served on the board of directors for other technology companies.

Ahmet Ozalp, Partner, Atlas Venture
Ozalp is a partner in the technology group at Atlas Venture, focusing on investment opportunities in cable, broadband, digital media, convergence, consumer electronics and wireless markets. Prior to Atlas, he was vice president of marketing at Narad Networks, and a consultant for Bain & Company’s technology practice, working with telecom equipment vendors, service providers and enterprise software companies. Ozalp has been a capital market strategist with Goldman Sachs and worked for Newnet, a telecom startup acquired eventually by ADC during his tenure. At Newnet, he was involved in creating the industry's first low-cost, UNIX-based SS7 platform and held positions as software engineer, product manager and director of engineering. While at ADC, Ozalp was the product line director of the Advanced Wireless Intelligent Networks Group and launched the successful CALEA product line.

Ray Hernandez is a managing director at Roth Capital Partners and oversees
the firm’s efforts in communications, data networking and information
technology. Prior to joining Roth in August 2006, Hernandez founded an IP
telephony business focused on the SMB segment. Before that, he was vice
president in the corporate development group at Covad Communications, a
nationwide broadband access and network services company. He also has nearly 12
years of investment banking experience, including seven years with Falkenberg
Capital Corp., where he specialized in the mobile and landline telephony and
data networking industries. Prior to that, he was director of acquisitions for
TCI, formerly the nation’s largest cable television operator. He began his
career as a tax and corporate attorney in Denver. Hernandez is a graduate of the
University of Colorado and Harvard Law School.
